fatigue, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, always tiredFibromyalgia can be a very frustrating illness to cope with, not only for the patient but also for the doctor trying to diagnose and treat it. It is defined as a condition that is characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain and tenderness accompanied by fatigue, mood changes, and memory problems.

To diagnose fibromyalgia, doctors must do what is called exclusion. This means testing for a number of other illnesses that it may be and ruling them out. When no other diagnose will fit, they can then say it is fibromyalgia. Such a diagnosis can leave the patient feeling as if they have few options for relief care and no hope for better health in the future.

However, there has been some interesting research done in the area of thyroid hormone regulation. There seems to be a link to fibromyalgia when hormone regulation is decreased. Reasons for this can be poor dietary habits, medications that slow down metabolism, and insufficient physical exercise, as these relate to hormonal imbalances, including cortisol, estrogen, and progesterone.

What links all of this together? The answer is the central nervous system, as it is responsible for the functioning of the immune system and the endocrine system, which regulates hormone production. So, a person who is experiencing the symptoms of fibromyalgia would find benefit in ensuring that their nervous system is functioning at its absolute best. How can that be done?

Upper cervical chiropractors are well trained in making sure the nervous system is working optimally. We understand that a misalignment in the upper neck can affect the way the nervous system works. If a misalignment is present in the part of the neck that houses the brainstem, this adversely affects many areas of the body, leading to such issues as fibromyalgia. The brainstem and the nervous system work closely together. A study performed involving a woman with fibromyalgia symptoms and receiving care from an upper cervical chiropractor revealed that she experienced total remission of her symptoms after only four months of care!

By seeking our care, a person may be back on the track to a healthy, happy life in no time at all. Once the misalignment in the neck is fixed, normal function can return to the nervous system, and healing can begin.
