Chronic fatigue is a debilitating condition that is characterized by extreme fatigue. The exact cause of chronic fatigue is unknown. However, there is a strong link between head and neck injuries and this condition.
No matter the cause, if tissue in the neck becomes damaged it negatively affects the spine causing it to lock in a stressed position. This leads to slow degeneration. The top bones of the neck (the C1 and C2 vertebrae) have a great range of motion, allowing the head to move in many directions. While this is a good thing, it also leaves this area of the neck more susceptible to injury. A misalignment in this area creates undue pressure on the brainstem hindering cortisol and blood and cerebral spinal fluid flow. In turn, all sorts of problems begin to develop in the body, including chronic fatigue symptoms. This can take years to happen. Therefore, if a person was injured awhile ago, he or she may still be feeling the effects today.

Dr. M. Dickholtz, Sr. was one of the first to see how chronic fatigue was becoming less intense after upper cervical chiropractic care. The results were amazing! Patients saw improvement in their overall health, including physically, mentally, socially, and having more energy. They could sleep better without the use of drugs. Cortisol levels in one patient registered normal after just 6 months.
At Hejny Chiropractic, we have seen similar results. I examine my patients for misalignments in the upper neck and work with them to correct it by a gentle, effective means that does not involve twisting or popping the spine. Rather, the technique used allows the body to begin using its natural healing ability. Chronic fatigue patients often report more sleep, less pain, and better quality of life.
