  • Meniere’s Disease – Meniere’s disease has a hallmark of 4 distinct symptoms, including severe episodes of vertigo, hearing loss, ringing in the ear (tinnitus), and a sense of fullness in the ear
  • BPPV – Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is the most common cause of spinning.  BPPV occurs when the canals of the inner ear become blocked by small calcium deposits.
  • Labyrinthitis – Usually a viral infection of the inner ear, labyrinthitis can cause inflammation around the nerves that relay signals about body position.

Vertigo and The Upper Cervical Spine

The three causes of vertigo discussed above often have one common root that lies in the topmost vertebra of the neck, your atlas.  Many people develop the following some type of head or neck injury, even a seemingly mild bump on the head.  Proper alignment of the vertebrae in the upper neck has a great influence on the body’s ability to maintain normal brain-body communication.  When a misalignment of the atlas exists, it can prevent signals relaying information about body positioning and balance from being communicated properly, leading to a dizziness.

At Hejny Chiropractic, we specialize in correcting specific atlas misalignments that may be creating the conditions under which vertigo episodes may arise.  Rather than traditional relief care that merely address symptoms on the surface, our detailed analysis pinpoints the exact nature of your atlas misalignment.  Each atlas correction given is custom-tailored to each patient’s needs. Whether your spinning is due to Meniere’s disease, BPPV, or labyrinthitis, having your atlas alignment checked and corrected by an upper cervical chiropractor can help to restore normal nervous system function, getting to the root cause.
