Headache, Headaches, Migraines, Migraine

Migraines can be a debilitating condition for the more than 38 million Americans who suffer from them. Those of you who get migraine headaches realize that they are more than just a bad headache. Symptoms also include sensitivity to light and sound as well as nausea and vomiting. It may take longer to recover from a migraine than the time an episode lasts. Plus, some experience chronic head pain which means more than 15 attacks per month.

Migraines Are Neurovascular Condition

Migraines are the result of a malfunction in two different vital body systems. The first is the central nervous system which is why they are often referred to as a neurological condition. The second issue is vascular since research is pointing to problems with blood flow to the brain being connected to head pain.

The Connection Between Migraines and Atlas Subluxation

When the C1 (atlas) vertebra is misaligned, a migraine is one possible result. This is because an atlas misalignment (subluxation) can result in interference with the proper flow of blood and cerebrospinal fluid to the brain. This can cause the neurological and vascular abnormalities which are present when most head pain occur.

When the misalignment is corrected, many patients experience relief. One example is a female figure skater who experienced migraines for 12 years after a concussion which occurred she hit her head on the ice. After 12 years of medication that provided little relief, just 3 months of upper cervical chiropractic care cleared up her chronic head pain. This is just one of many case studies involving the benefits of upper cervical care.

At Hejny Chiropractic, we use the Atlas Orthogonal method of upper cervical chiropractic to treat patients. This is a gentle and specific approach to correcting upper neck subluxations without any popping or cracking of the spine. Gentle adjustments lead to long-lasting corrections which allow for greater healing.
